Barefoot Bowls on the Gold Coast: what to expect
Barefoot bowls is lawn bowls with the formality removed: shoes off, drinks allowed, and absolutely no dress code. It's the most social sport in Australia by some margin, a game you can play well on your first go and talk through the whole time. Social barefoot bowls works brilliantly as a weekly comp because every skill level competes on the same rink, and the gap between beginner and veteran is one good end. Bring mates, bring workmates, bring your parents. All of them will be into it.
How SportUP barefoot bowls comps will work
When barefoot bowls launches on the Gold Coast, it'll run like every SportUP comp: one night a week, short seasons, refs and gear sorted, tunes on, and a ladder that matters just enough. Book as a team or join solo and we'll find you one. We already run social comps across the Gold Coast. The first barefoot bowls venue will go wherever the waitlist is strongest, so rope in mates from your end of the coast.
And every comp is backed by our Pinky Promise. If you don't absolutely love your first game, we'll find you a better fit, cover your next game free, or give your money back.
Barefoot Bowls Gold Coast FAQs
When will barefoot bowls start on the Gold Coast?
As soon as the waitlist is big enough to fill a first season, usually 6 to 8 teams' worth of players. Every signup genuinely moves it forward, and waitlist members hear first, before we announce it anywhere else.
Do I need a team to play barefoot bowls on the Gold Coast?
No. Join the waitlist solo, and when we launch you can book as an individual and we'll place you in a team. Plenty of our current players started exactly that way.
Do I need my own lawn bowls?
No. Bowls clubs supply the bowls and we sort the rest. Bare feet or flat shoes on the green, and that's the entire equipment list.
Is barefoot bowls actually a sport?
Enough of one to get competitive by week two. There's real skill in the draw shot, but the beauty is you can chat, drink and still land bowls on the jack. Sport for people who want the game and the hangout in one.
How much will barefoot bowls cost?
Pricing is locked in at launch, but SportUP comps usually work out around the cost of a takeaway meal per game, with refs, venue and gear included. The waitlist gets pricing and first pick of spots before anyone else.
Where in Gold Coast will barefoot bowls be played?
We already run social comps across the Gold Coast. The first barefoot bowls venue will go wherever the waitlist is strongest, so rope in mates from your end of the coast.
Can't wait that long?
Fair enough. We already run netball, basketball, soccer and volleyball comps every week on the Gold Coast. Solo or with a team, there's a spot if you want one.
