Social AFL competitions are coming to Brisbane
Kick-to-kick was never meant to end at year 12. Social AFL, shorter games, and torps that mostly come off.
We don't run AFL in Brisbane yet. This page is how that changes. Every name on the list gets us closer to locking in venues and a first season.

Aussie Rules AFL in Brisbane: what to expect
Social AFL is Aussie rules rebuilt for a weeknight: smaller fields, fewer players, no tackling, and all the parts of footy you actually miss. Think AFL 9s style: nine a side, touch or grab instead of tackles, and goals that still feel as good as they did when you were twelve. It suits lapsed junior footballers, Sherrin-owning park kickers, and complete newcomers who just want to learn how to drop punt without a coach yelling.
How SportUP AFL comps will work
When AFL launches in Brisbane, it'll run like every SportUP comp: one night a week, short seasons, refs and gear sorted, tunes on, and a ladder that matters just enough. Book as a team or join solo and we'll find you one. We already run social comps at 29 venues across Brisbane, from the CBD out to the suburbs. The first AFL venue will land wherever the waitlist is strongest, so get your side of town signed up.
And every comp is backed by our Pinky Promise. If you don't absolutely love your first game, we'll find you a better fit, cover your next game free, or give your money back.
Aussie Rules AFL Brisbane FAQs
When will AFL start in Brisbane?
As soon as the waitlist is big enough to fill a first season, usually 6 to 8 teams' worth of players. Every signup genuinely moves it forward, and waitlist members hear first, before we announce it anywhere else.
Do I need a team to play AFL in Brisbane?
No. Join the waitlist solo, and when we launch you can book as an individual and we'll place you in a team. Plenty of our current players started exactly that way.
Is social AFL full contact?
No. It's a modified AFL 9s style format: no tackling, no bumping, and a touch counts as a tackle. All the kicking, marking and running of footy without the physio bills.
I haven't kicked a footy in years. Will I keep up?
The drop punt is like riding a bike, just wobblier for the first ten minutes. Shorter fields and nine a side mean less running than full footy, and mixed social divisions keep the pace honest.
How much will AFL cost?
Pricing is locked in at launch, but SportUP comps usually work out around the cost of a takeaway meal per game, with refs, venue and gear included. The waitlist gets pricing and first pick of spots before anyone else.
Where in Brisbane will AFL be played?
We already run social comps at 29 venues across Brisbane, from the CBD out to the suburbs. The first AFL venue will land wherever the waitlist is strongest, so get your side of town signed up.
Can't wait that long?
Fair enough. We already run netball, basketball, soccer and volleyball comps every week in Brisbane. Solo or with a team, there's a spot if you want one.
